Let them be little!

I have been reminded recently how vital it is to focus more on my relationships and let some of the other stuff just go! You all know what "other stuff" I am talking about: the dishes, laundry, floors, school stuff, blogging, reading etc - not that these are things aren't also important aspects of our lives that need to be taken care of but they pale in comparison to what really matters most - family relationships!

Four of the most important people in my life can bring me the greatest joys but at times can cause me great frustration and concern. This struggle, I am sure stems I think from my desire to help and guide them to be the individuals that Heavenly Father wants them to become. They have so much potential! I am so blessed to be their mother! However, I think that many times I get way to zealous. I need to just let them be little. In fact I need to be more "little" myself! I need to laugh more with them, be silly and crazy with them, trust and forgive more, read more with them, dream and create more with them, relax more with them, and above all express my deep love and appreciation to them for who they are right now - not for who I see they have the potential to become - but for who they are right now!

What it boils down to is my need to enjoy the journey along with my children instead of always looking towards the final destination. Not that aiming for the final destination is a bad thing, but there is a need to keep both the here and now as well as the future in proper perspective. So hopefully I can strike a better balance and just let my kids be little!

Soccer Time!

Hailey just loves playing soccer! She is learning a ton and is having a ball with her friends. Here are a few of her favorite soccer pictures with her and her friends.

Marc's Adventures

Loads of you keep asking me how Marc is doing on the job. How he likes it, where he is at, what he does, what do the rigs look like - so this post is dedicated to explaining that as best I can. He works for N.O.V. (can't remember what it stands for exactly) - but they just bought out Intelliserv - which from what I know so far will be a good thing. His company provides communication and I think some sort of networking systems (really knowledgeable huh!) that is attached to the drill pipe and will allow the driller to see in real time where they are drilling at as well as all the take all the readings that they need to take while drilling. I'll be sure to make sure that Marc reads this to make sure it is accurate. You will all have to wait until October 2nd when he is scheduled to return. He is currently in Trinidad and is loving life on the rig - apart from being away from his family of course! Here are a few pictures of the rig.

Highlights of Summer

One Monday night we went on a really cool hike up to Battle Creek Falls in Pleasant Grove. It is pretty short hike about 1/2 mile (I think) and really pretty. The kids had a great time taking turns being the "leader". Well okay maybe not such a great time....if Braiden wasn't the leader, he threw a fit! He kept saying, "I am the boy!" "I am supposed to be the leader!" After a few times of trying to argue the point, Hannah and Hailey finally just gave up.

Even though we went during the early evening, it was pretty hot that day on the way up to the falls so by the time we got there, the water from the falls felt really, really good!

On the hike back down, you come around a point and you see the valley below and utah lake. With the sun starting to set at the time we saw it, it was really a beautiful sight. Too bad at that point my memory card was filled - in any case, just imagine the most beautiful sunset you have seen over a valley and then just add a bit of smog and haze and you will have a pretty good idea of what we saw! Just kidding, despite the little bit of haze, it really was a beautiful sight.

On the way up the kids also found a cave "just for kids"! Meaning mom and dad were not allowed to be in the picture. Which if the truth be told, that was okay with me!

Every year our city sponsors a celebration event where they is a ton of activities, games, booths, food, concerts, fireworks etc. It is really pretty cool! This summer they had a rock climbing wall at this city days. When my kids saw it I thought they were going to flip! They all wanted to try it. So they did it and to be truthful I was a bit hesitant, but they impressed me! Nanna and a few of their aunts were they to see them and cheer them on!

The last and probably the most cherished for me is the countless days we either rode our bikes or walked to the park right by our house and just played!

There is nothing quite like being silly with your kids. I think the funniest part of it is actually seeing the look on your children's faces when you are silly. It's like they are surprised that grown-ups can do that.

Freaky Fridays

On Fridays after school, we have "Freaky Fridays" which means we have an adventure of some sort. We have gone to museums, BYU creamery, bowling, movies, farm country, farmers market, hiking etc - the main goal is to get out of the house and spend time as a family. Since the girls get out at 12:30 p.m. we pretty much have the entire day to play. It is really nice! These are pictures of a recent trip to good 'ole Chuckie Cheese where we had not so great pizza but had a blast with the kids! All caged up and nowhere to go - Oh darn!~

Here we are...again!

Well it seems that blogging was a bit more difficult than I first expected! Well actually it took more time than I first expected. It doesn't blog by itself..darn it! At a friends gentle prodding (thanks Karen) I have set a goal to blog every Monday night after the kids go to bed. This way when Marc is out of town he can know and see what we have been up to.

Speaking of Marc, loves his job! He is currently in Trinidad, a welcome switch from Mexico where he has traveled the last few times. Not that he didn't love Mexico, but change for Marc is always welcomed!

Hannah and Hailey are well into the swing of things at school. Hannah is really enjoying 3rd grade. She is becoming obsessed with reading! (not that I mind) If her head is not in a book than she is practicing the piano, going to dance practice or playing with her many friends! Hailey is loving 1st grade! She loves her teacher and is a wiz at spelling. She is doing really well at soccer where she frequently plays goalie. She loves that she can block a shot or two each game! Her uncle Bryan would be so proud!

Braiden is well Braiden! He is the sweetest 3 year old little boy! He is a great helper his little brother. He has just started pre-school (Joyschool) and before the other kids came to our house; he said,"Mom, I am really nervous for my friends to come over. I want them to like our house" I assured him that everyone would have a great time! A little later that day when the kids had left, I asked him if he had a great time. He said "sure did!" Then he asked, "mom, how did you learn to teach so well?" (I have to admit that made my day!) I told him I have had lots of practice." to which he replied "oh, that's all? Then I am going to practice then so I can teach better than you!" I smiled as he ran off and thought to myself...good for you...you go little man!

Bensen is almost one! He will be one in exactly one month! I am not ready for this! He is my baby! He is walking and trying to talk. He is so dang cute I just want to squeeze him all the time! The other day when Marc and I were watching TV, Bensen picked up the remote and put it to his ear and said over and over again, "hello". It was the cutest thing. Of course neither one of us thought to go grab the camera to take a picture of that, hopefully it will happen again.

This blogging thing is a bit contagious! I may have to do this more often!
